acmeessence
In the time it is being composed or at the moment that the instrument, stimulated by the musician, produces it, music is quantifiable, measureable. But here a mysterious leap is taken: that that we listen to is immaterial and, in the moment that we become aware of it, vanishes to become a memory. Music is the most sublime sign of our transiency. Music, like beauty, shines and passes into memory, our deepest nature. We are our memory.
Giuseppe Sinopoli, conductor (Nov. 2, 1946 - Apr. 20, 2001)
